Mustard Plug is a third-wave ska band from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They are part of a genre of music that has many different names. Some common ones are punk-ska, skunk, ska-core, etc. This is because sometimes they have distorted guitar riffs and a raspy vocalist. But in general, they’re known for their traditional ska instrumental style, upbeat, and “happy-sounding” songs. This includes walking basslines, the classic upstroke guitar technique, 4/4 timing drums, a catchy but simplistic horn section, fast singing, and their tradmark group-choruses. Mustard Plug is a favorite among ska purists, as well as generic fans, and they have a very large fanbase.

Formed in 1991, the band’s original members were Dave Kirchgessner, Mike McKendrick, Colin Clive, and Anthony Vilchez. Currently, the band consists of Dave(Vocals), Brandon Jenison (Trumpet), Jim Hofer (Trombone), Nate Cohn(Drums), Colin Clive(Guitar/Vocals), and Rick Johnson(Bass).
