
Pink Floyd (formed 1965 in Cambridge, United Kingdom) is a British band noted for psychedelic rock music, philosophical lyrics, avant-garde compositions, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art and elaborate live shows. One of rock music’s most successful and influential acts, the group have sold an estimated 73.5 million albums in the U.S., and over 300 million albums worldwide.
Pink Floyd enjoyed modest success in the late-1960s as a psychedelic band led by Syd Barrett. Barrett’s increasingly erratic behaviour eventually caused his colleagues to replace him after The Piper at the Gates Of Dawn with guitarist David Gilmour. (Syd Barrett died on July 7, 2006 of complications arising from diabetes.)
