
The White Stripes are a Grammy-winning American alternative rock duo (whose early garage rock/punk blues beginnings with Sympathy For The Record Industry was a staple in the local Detroit scene) from Southwest Detroit, Michigan, consisting of songwriter Jack White primarily on guitar, piano, vocals, and Meg White on drums. They are known for their raw, minimalist lo-fi sound and simplicity of composition, recording techniques and arrangements. The group takes its eclectic sound from punk rock, garage rock, Delta blues, rock and roll, country, and folk-rock. They rose to prominence as part of the garage rock revival” with their successful albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant.
